Chamber congratulates quake and flood responders

Wellington Chamber of Commerce congratulates all those involved in the response to the earthquake and flooding on their work in guiding Wellingtonians through a tough week.

Chief Executive John Milford said: “It’s been a week from hell – certainly one of the toughest the city has experienced in recent memory – and there are a lot of people who deserve all our thanks: first responders, urban search and rescue, engineers, emergency management personnel, NZ Transport Agency staff, city council personnel, and the mayor.

“Hundreds of them have put in the hard yards and many extra hours to ensure we were kept out of harm’s way, our places of business were safe, and our roads passable.

“They’ve done a fantastic job. I suspect there could still be surprises to come, but it looks like we are past the worst of it with no serious injuries, and that is down to a mixture of good luck and the good management of those people.”
