Mainfreight saves the day

Saturday 19 November 2016

Mainfreight saves the day for Christchurch’s favorite Christmas party.

It took creative thinking, fast action and all hands on deck to make sure Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park made it to Christchurch in time for the first concert on Saturday 26 November.

Mainfreight, a valued long-term partner of Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park, transport the staging, sound and lighting equipment, scaffolding and the 22 metre Christmas tree from Auckland to Christchurch every year. After the show the containers are packed up and on their way back to Auckland in time for the Auckland concert.
Seventeen containers were due to leave on Monday by rail; however the impact of Monday’s 7.8 earthquake in the South Island meant the Christchurch concert was at risk.

After working through a number of challenges, Mainfreight were able to secure coastal shipping for the containers to ensure they arrived in Christchurch on time and finalise a secure plan that ensures it will all make it back to Auckland in time for the Auckland show on Saturday 10 December.

Grant Smith from Mainfreight said, “We’ve been moving this show for over 16 years and we were determined to do everything we could to make sure that both concerts went ahead.”

Managing Director of Coca-Cola Amatil NZ Chris Litchfield said, “Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park is a huge collaborative effort and its partners like Mainfreight whose quick thinking, responsiveness and commitment to the NZ community keep our show on the road year after year.”
