New park and ride option on the Shore

Auckland Transport media release

24 November 2016

New park and ride option on the Shore

As part of ongoing efforts to provide commuters with improved public transport options, Auckland Transport and the Harbourside Church are working together to trial a new joint park and ride amenity on Esmonde Road, Takapuna.

The trial will involve the use of the Harbourside Church carpark, which is underutilised during weekdays, and the installation of new temporary bus stops on Esmonde Road by Auckland Transport. Wilson Parking has been engaged by the church to manage the day to day operation of the carpark.

Mac Andrae, General Manager and Pastor of the Harbourside Church says, “Harbourside Church is happy to assist Auckland Transport in its efforts to address traffic and transport challenges in our growing city.

“We hope this partnership will provide our community with greater options in their daily travel and will contribute towards improving traffic in and around Takapuna.”

Grant Gillon, Chairman of the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board says, “This is a great initiative for Takapuna as it has the potential of reducing traffic congestion and encouraging greater use of public transport. I hope our community will give it a go, a successful trial here will encourage other initiatives and the installation of more permanent facilities.”

Mark Lambert, Chief AT Metro Officer for Auckland Transport says, “As a key arterial route for traffic travelling between State Highway 1 and Lake Road, the Harbourside Church is strategically located to service workers travelling from Takapuna, Milford, Belmont and Devonport to the CBD and vice versa.

Parking rates will be set by Wilson Parking in agreement with Harbourside Church.

The new temporary bus stops will be located on both sides of Esmonde Road in the vicinity of the Harbourside Church entrance. The trial will commence from Monday 28 November and will run for six months.
