High school helps fill the pool

High school helps fill the pool

Frimley Pool is in the process of being filled with the help of the Hastings Girls High School, and kids will be able to splash about in it very shortly.

Paint work on the pools was finished last week and now water is flowing in. Normally the pools would have been filled from the town supply but given the water use restrictions the neighbouring high school offered to fill the pools from its private bore.

Water restrictions have been in place since last Thursday. There is not a water shortage as there is plenty of water in the aquifer but the town supply pumps are struggling to keep up with demand. Residents have been asked to limit discretionary use (such as car washing and garden watering) to allow the pumps to fill the reservoirs from which the town supply flows.

Hastings Girls High School and Hastings District Councillor Geraldine Travers made the offer to supply the pool water, which was rapidly taken up by council staff.

A date for the pool opening has not yet been set but as soon as the water quality is confirmed as ready for swimming it will be opened, said a council spokesperson. “Hopefully within a week.”
