TRAFFIC BULLETIN

30 November 2016 | SOUTHERN REGION

Serious crash near Springs Junction, State Highway 65, detour along Buller Gorge, caution needed

A serious crash just before 10 am today has closed the current inland state highway route between Picton and Christchurch.

A detour route is likely to be in place for several hours into the afternoon. The detour along a winding section of road requires caution.

“People need to slow down on the highway route and also on the detour,” says Lee Wright, NZ Transport Agency Journey Manager.

The crash involving two trucks occurred on State Highway 65, 9.5 km north of Springs Junction. Emergency services are at the site and the Police Serious Crash Investigation team will be involved.

The detour route for southbound traffic is SH6 from Murchison then SH69 to Reefton and onto SH7 to Springs Junction and the reverse for northbound traffic.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journey south or north until the crash has been resolved. See detour route in gold on map below.
