Protest over Horowhenua council vote to oust popular Deputy Mayor.

Today Horowhenua residents took to the street in a silent protest to express their concerns over the ousting of the region’s newly elected and popular Deputy Mayor Ross Campbell.

Concerns of police intimidation were sparked when a woman was called by local police after signing up to a Facebook page confirming her attendance at the protest. Prompting a request for the CEO of Horowhenua District Council David Clapperton to reassure protestors that there would be no heavy handedness.

The protest drew 100 plus , with more arriving as we speak, people carry placards and standing in silence outside the contraversal HDC building in Levin. The district has seen a spate of protests as the Horowhenua community challenge the embattled council over their decisions.

Protesters disbanded to attend the public Council meeting to hear the fate of the Deputy Mayor Ross Campbell.
