Secret Santa’s and Give A Little Support Kaikoura

Media Release

8 December 2016

Secret Santa’s and Give A Little Support Kaikoura

Following the devastating 7.8 earthquake that hit New Zealand and more especially the seaside township of Kaikoura. Wainuiomata based eco fashion designer, Denise (Hamilton) Anglesey who was raised in the township decided she needed to do something to help.

With family trapped in the aftermath of the quake and unable to make contact – Denise got in touch with Rachel Gillespie, operator of Queenstown to Kaikoura and asking her to put up a Give A Little Page to raise funds for the residents of the Kaikoura Region. To date the Give A Little has exceeded $20,000 with funds being donated by local businesses, locals, children and people from overseas who have visited the township in the past. Local residents have been asked to nominate people they feel have been the worst affected and the funds will be distributed via a locally based charitable trust account in Kaikoura.

With the initial emergency settling down some, Denise contacted a few retailers she personally knew and formulated the “Secret Santa Surprise from Kaikoura NZ” campaign and put it into action. Within a few hours the single post on face book had reached over 2000 Facebook users.

Secret Santa Surprise Packages range in price from $20 through to $100 and currently five retailers including A Patch of Country, Gecko Gearz, Little Rock Kaikoura, Jade Kiwi and Beached as Souvenirs have come on board to fill orders that are already beginning to come in including one from a man in Germany who had made a purchase from one of the participating shops the afternoon before the earthquake and was among the tourists who needed to be evacuated.

Denise who has her own business and who has a back ground in marketing, sales, is the owner/ operator of her own eco fashion label DENISE H and is the founder of the International recognised NZ Eco Fashion Week.

The Secret Santa campaign was released on Wednesday 8 December and will run through until 24 December. “We decided that in the circumstances people wouldn’t mind to much if orders were slightly late. The small businesses involved have been severely affected and this is a small way we can help out but we will be looking at fresh ideas and promotions for the new year to continue our support”.
