Update on the Vodafone network following power cut in Gisborne

Further to the update issued yesterday, our team has been working hard to assess, monitor, and restore services across the numerous cell sites in the Gisborne region to keep our customers connected. The team deployed generators from depots across the central North Island and in some circumstances, helicoptered them to the cell sites in order to ensure mobile coverage was maintained.

Most of the cell sites in the Gisborne region are now operating on generators with mobile services restored. We have three sites that are currently down – Te Karaka, East Cape and Te Puia. Customers in these areas will be experiencing degraded mobile service. We apologise for any inconvenience and are working to restore services as quickly as possible. Generators are scheduled to be supplied to these sites this morning and we aim to have the sites back on line by midday at the latest.

The Vodafone team will be kept busy across the day today as they continue to monitor all cell sites and coordinate refuelling runs. We will post updates about mobile services in the Gisborne region on the Vodafone Network Statusweb page and to the Vodafone Community page.

We understand mains power may take some time to be reinstated. For updates on the work to restore mains power, please go to Eastland Network.

Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the two men who lost their lives yesterday.
