Refurbishment to PGA courts
Refurbishment to PGA courts
The Regional Indoor Sports and Event Centre Trust who operate the Pettigrew. Green Arena in Taradale have given approval to have its 3 international standard courts refurbished for 2017 over the summer holidays.
Work has started this week on the courts with the stripping back of all lacquer and court lines with approximately 1mm taken of the wooden timber sports floor. Although the sanding is due to be completed Thursday this week, then reapplying of 4 coats of lacquer and re marking all court lines for its main sports across the 3 courts will occur.
The 3 courts will be marked for the traditional sports played regularly at PGA including basketball, netball, volleyball, futsal and badminton. The regular users who play these sports each week at the facility will see a huge difference in the surface and lines with this being the first full refurbishment since the opening of the facility in 2003. That is many hours of shoes running and balls bounced on the courts said General Manager, Dan Rodden. He said it shows the steps his board are taking to make sure we keep the facility in premium condition for the community and users. We want to keep the facility up to international standard to attract international sports such as the Tall Blacks, Silver Ferns as well as our very own Taylor Hawks Rodden said.
The facility is still open with its Fitness Centre Arena Gym operating as normal and Subway open to the public throughout this period. The first booking on the new courts will be the annually hosted Badminton New Zealand junior high performance camp and the first regular user being Napier Volleyball Club. The Hawks will also benefit from the new surface when they hit the court for the first time next year on Sunday 19th March in the 2017 NBL.
