Media alert (9.55am, 15 January): Tongariro incident

Please attribute the below information to Steve Yanko, St John District Operations Manager.

St John can confirm it has responded to the incident involving a bus at the intersection of SH 47 and SH 48 in Tongariro Forest Park.

We have two rescue helicopters located at a staging post nearby.
We have five ambulances and a St John operations manager on scene.
Ambulance officers and paramedics are assessing patients.

At this stage, we have 2 patients with serious injuries; the remaining 13 are still being assessed.

This is a developing situation, and we will provide further updates when we have information.
