Fire ban: Do not light fires
Fire ban: Do not light
fires
People are continuing to take foolish risks with fire in Hastings despite the complete fire ban – and despite the devastation that fire has caused across the district over the last few days.
Two outdoor rubbish fires were put out today by fire crews.
“Any fire in these conditions is putting people’s lives at risk. We have had a family lose their home and people very nearly caught out trying to evacuate,” said Hastings District Council Civil Defence Emergency Management controller Craig Cameron.
“It’s frustrating that in these incredibly dry conditions, which are described as the worst in at least 20 years, some people are still do not getting the message.
“There is a complete fire ban; which means no fires outdoors of any description. That includes burning rubbish, cooking fires and fireworks.”
Hastings District Council declared a Civil Defence Emergency in Hastings yesterday, as firefighters battled five fires across the district.
