Update on Port Hills fires –4pm

Fire update

The Port Hills fire area remains at 2075 hectares. Suppression efforts include the area above Dyers Pass Road below Sign of the Kiwi into Victoria Park, in and around Sugar Loaf, the area around Marleys Hill and the southern flank of the fire. Significant progress is being made in establishing appropriate fire breaks.

Cordons

We continue to reassess our information regarding cordons. Cordons in place as at 4pm:

• Upper Dyers Pass Road: the cordon is now above the last house on Dyers Pass Road, so above 236 Dyers Pass Road. This means all residents in streets below these cordon points (including Longhurst Terrace and Pentre Terrace) can have access to their homes.

• Dyers Pass Road at Governor’s Bay Road (residents only access between this cordon and the final cordon at 555 Dyers Pass Road)

• Victoria Park Road: there is now a cordon on Victoria Park Road above the last house on this road which is the entrance to Victoria Park.

• Kennedys Bush Road: Residents in houses up to, and including, houses at 299 and 304 Kennedys Bush Road, can now access their properties.

• Properties up to and including 327 Worsleys Road can be accessed

• Summit Road at the intersection of Gebbies Pass Road – this means none of the western section of Summit Rd is currently accessible

• Hoon Hay Valley Road at the intersection of Cashmere Road meaning all of Hoon Hay Valley Road remains closed to the public.
