Chair sought for Finance, Audit and Risk Subcommittee

Media Release: Monday 6 March 2017

Independent Chairperson sought for Finance, Audit and Risk Subcommittee

Expressions of interest from suitably-experienced candidates to be the Independent Chairperson of Horowhenua District Council’s Finance, Audit and Risk Subcommittee are due by this Friday.

“It is best practice within Local Government is to appoint an independent person on any Finance Committee. This is recommended by the Office of the Auditor General and Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ),” said Council’s Customer and Community Services Group Manager Monique Davidson.

“As such, the District Mayor has extended this to an independent person chairing Council’s Finance, Audit and Risk Subcommittee, and seeking to appoint the preferred candidate for a three year term.”

Mrs Davidson said the position is being advertised in order to receive a good cross section of interest.

In accordance with Council policy, a candidate should, as a minimum, have the following skills:

• intellectual ability;

• understanding of governance issues;

• either business experience or other experience that is relevant to the activities of the Subcommittee

• sound judgement;

• high standard of personal integrity;

• ability to work as a member of a team.

A full personnel specification for this role and a copy of the Finance, Audit and Risk Subcommittee’s Terms of Reference can be found on the Council website www.horowhenua.govt.nz/financeauditandrisk or collected from Council’s main office, 126 Oxford Street, Levin.
