The
story behind Otaki’s “hidden gem”
See how a major flood protection project has resulted in stunning environmental enhancement by joining the Explore Chrystalls Bend guided walk along the banks of the Otaki River on Saturday 25 March.
The once derelict Chrystalls Bend became the site of Greater Wellington Regional Council flood protection works, which provided funding for environmental enhancement of the area carried out by the Friends of Otaki River with crucial support from Winstone Aggregates and Kapiti Coast District Council.
On the day, members of the Friends of Otaki River and Greater Wellington’s river ranger will lead a pleasant walk along the Chrystalls Bend walkway to the lagoon, with plenty of opportunities for participants to find out more about Chrystalls Bend and ask questions.
Explore Chrystalls Bend is part of Greater Wellington’s Great Outdoors Summer Events programme. For a full list of events, visit www.gw.govt.nz/events.
