Weather and road update #19 midnight

State Highway 25 just south of Thames is closed as is SH25 in Mercury Bay between the 309 Rd and Wade Road due to flooding and police say Hikuai Settlement Road into Pauanui is impassable.

The SH25 bypass around Whangamata was closed earlier but a detour through Whangamata is possible.

This evening, as river levels in the Kauaeranga Valley topped 10m, SH25 at Rhodes Park in Thames was closed.

We've also got unconfirmed reports of road closures at:

SH25 at Manaia - flooding
309 Rd - slip 200m east of Waterworks.
151mm of rain has fallen at the Pinnacles in the last 24 hours and more is expected.
Here's what the Metservice Severe Weather Warning issued at 8:53pm says about the Coromandel:
"Periods of heavy rain are expected to ease Saturday morning. In the 13 hours from 9pm Friday to 10am Saturday, another 60 to 90mm may accumulate on top of what has already fallen. Peak intensities of 25mm per hour or possibly more in downpours.
Note, further rain or showers are expected during Sunday, especially in the morning."
