Reservoir gets a makeover

Witherlea residents may notice a slight chlorine smell for a few days in their water next week.

Marlborough District Council disconnected the Wither Hills Reservoir at the weekend for maintenance and will be reconnecting it to the town water supply early next week.

Council Operations and Maintenance Engineer, Stephen Rooney, says that at the end of the maintenance work the reservoir’s walls and floor are sterilised with chlorine which is then thoroughly rinsed and flushed to waste.

The reservoir will then be refilled with fresh water before being connected back to the supply – for properties south of Hospital Road – on Monday or Tuesday next week.

“The water will be fresh and clear of chlorine, but some residents may notice a slight chlorine odour from their taps for a few days,” Mr Rooney says. “It’s perfectly normal and the smell will disappear pretty quickly.”
