Police divers recover body from Kaikoura Peninsula

Police divers have recovered a body from waters off the Kaikoura Peninsula.

The discovery was made in shallow water during low tide at East Head, at about 6pm on Monday 20 March.

It follows an extensive search, which began on Sunday 19 March, for a man who went snorkelling in the area and failed to return.

Formal identification is ongoing.

Police is not in a position to release further details of the deceased at this stage.

The matter will be referred to the Coroner.

Police would like to thank Coastguard and assisting partners for their help with the search.
