Dunedin Curtain Bank 4th birthday with Mayor, Dave Cull
The Dunedin Curtain Bank (DCB), established in March
2013 is celebrating it's fourth birthday this coming
Tuesday, 4th of April at the Curtain Bank at 174 Princes
Street, Dunedin.
The Dunedin Curtain Bank was established to assist people on low incomes to conserve the heat in their homes through the provision of free thermal curtains. Working with a wide range of social services agencies, Housing New Zealand, and DCC who are established as referral agencies to our service, we have helped over 1200 people in four years of operation, providing over 1600 pairs of curtains to those in need. Providing curtains is one way of reducing energy poverty in our city. Curtains are also available to all community services card holders, who can refer themselves to the service. Word is spreading, with a 50% increase in referrals in the first two months of 2017 when compared to the same period in 2016.
On Tuesday 4th of April at 2pm, we will hold an afternoon tea with our volunteers, referral agencies, sponsors, supporters and friends. Mayor Dave Cull and DCB Chairwoman will speak, and our long standing volunteer machinist, Marilyn Cook will cut a curtain themed cake (it also happens to be Marilyn's Birthday on the same day).
