Aggravated robberies in Christchurch

This can be attributed to Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney, Field Crime Manager, Canterbury Police:

Christchurch Police are very concerned about the number of recent aggravated robberies of bars and hotels across the city, and are working across shifts to ensure offenders are brought to account.

These are a priority for our staff and a dedicated team of 20, including a team of detectives, has been formed, with specialists now working across shifts to take positive action and solve these offences.

The Police will be holding those responsible to account for this offending.

We understand how distressing these events can be for the victims involved, and have offered them ongoing support and advice as we work through our investigations.

A team of Police have, and will continue to, provide assistance including visits to hotels and licenced premises around prevention advice for their businesses.

We would encourage anyone who witnesses any concerning or suspicious behaviour to contact Police straight away on 111, with as much detail as possible.
