Otago Weather Watch – Otago Regional Council Advisory #2

OTAGO WEATHER WATCH – OTAGO REGIONAL COUNCIL ADVISORY #2

13 April 2017 1145 hrs

Otago Regional Council (ORC) is continuing to monitor river levels across Otago as a precaution.

ORC staff reported that there were no issues overnight with The Water of Leith, Lindsay Creek or Silver Stream within Dunedin. Staff were also keeping watch on the Pomahaka and Kakanui Rivers in South and North Otago, and reported no issues.

There are no concerns for river levels around Otago today, with all river infrastructure managed by ORC operating well.

The Taieri River is still rising at Outram; however it remains below flood levels. Water levels in all other monitored rivers are currently falling.

More rain is predicted from this evening and into Friday; based on current weather forecasts this should not result in any flooding beyond the usual surface flooding that occurs during normal rain events.

There is a possibility of heavy rain in North Otago but at this stage there are not expected to be major issues.

ORC will continue to monitor river levels as the weather event unfolds.
