Cyclone Cook weather and roading update #12 – 6am
(Ex-Tropical) Cyclone Cook passed the east of the Coromandel Peninsula without making landfall. The forecast shows we will continue to have a few showers and Northwesterlies (strong in exposed places) during the Easter long weekend in the Coromandel.
MetService says “The centre of Cyclone Cook lay close to Rotorua at 8pm Thursday and is expected move southwards reaching Wairarapa in the early hours of Friday morning. The system is then expected to continue tracking south along the South Island east coast, or just offshore to the east, during Friday.”
“The Coromandel is open for business,” says Civil Defence Controller, Garry Towler.
Mr Towler will be
giving a live update at 7am on
www.facebook.com/ThamesCoromandelDistrictCouncil.
There are still slips and some surface flooding on various roads across the Coromandel with road works and traffic management in place so please, expect delays and drive with caution.
"Weather and road conditions can change rapidly so check current conditions before you travel. If you do travel, allow extra time for your journey," says NZ Transport Agency Highways Manager, Niclas Johansson.
