Celebrate mums and Mother Nature

We think all mothers deserve the best treatment, including Mother Nature, so join us on May 13th 2017 to help give her a tidy up.

This Mother’s Day eve, 56 sites around Christchurch have been allocated for the Mother of All Clean Ups 2017. Clean up starts at 10am rain or shine.

One of the organisers, Tanya Jenkins from the Estuary Trust, hopes that this year is as successful as the last. "We were thrilled to see such an enormous turn out of caring people last year. Close to 1300 members of the public tidied 156 km of river bank and estuary edge."

Several tonnes of rubbish were collected last year, including plastic bags, food wrappers, straws, bottle tops, a large number of old TV's and computers and even a complete sheep carcass!

“We are hoping that we collect less this year as the aim of the event is to raise awareness of the issue and for individuals to take responsibility for careful disposal of rubbish.”

We would like to thank all of the wonderful partners Opawaho Heathcote River Network, Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust, Avon-Otakaro Network, City Care, Environment Canterbury, Department of Conservation and Cassells. It is only by working together that we can look after the places we love.
