Student Volunteer Week

Student Volunteer Week

The Student Volunteer Expo at Canterbury University yesterday aimed to profile volunteer opportunities to students. Exhibitors comprised 25 community organisations in the Canterbury region which are seeking volunteers. Many expressed how delighted they were to find students had done quite a bit of homework ‘online’ about their organisations and were already well-informed when they spoke to the representatives about their next steps to getting involved.

While networking was a definite added bonus for organisations which participated, many echoed the sentiments of Victoria from Garden To Table Trust who said she was delighted to have had the opportunity to speak to ‘such engaged students’.

The interactive displays of the organisations included furry and feathered stars and giveaways and ran for two hours on Campus. A most successful collaboration between Volunteering Canterbury and the University of Canterbury, all involved with the Expo were in agreement with University of Canterbury’s Robyn Cummins, who said ‘It was so special and uplifting … to see how much our students want to give back and be involved in their community.’
