Tranzit a preferred supplier for Wellington bus network

Tranzit Group named a preferred supplier for Wellington bus network

Local bus operator Tranzit says it is rapt to have been announced today as preferred bidder to operate a sizable part of the Wellington public bus network.

Paul Snelgrove, Managing Director, whose grandfather started the business in 1924, says the company plans to serve Wellington commuters with a new bus fleet, and smoother and more comfortable rides.

“We’re rapt to have this opportunity to match the region’s passion for public transport with our devotion to a great customer experience.

“We’re bus people, and this is a bus-keen region. Residents rightly expect a lot from their buses, and we’re going to deliver on our promises to them.”

Paul says the company will build 228 new buses to operate on the routes, “with as many built by the Kiwi Bus Builders team as it can handle.” The buses will be air-conditioned with ergonomic seating. They will all be Euro 6 certified, the highest possible global emissions standard.

“We understand the timeframes and practicalities of changes like these, so will be well prepared come July 2018.”

Renee Snelgrove, Tranzit’s HR and Legal Director, anticipates hiring another 380 drivers to join its 1000-strong “family”.

Renee, New Zealand’s youngest-ever female bus driver when she qualified at 18, says the drivers will be trained in the Tranzit approach, which focuses on smooth and safe driving. Tranzit holds a five-star rating with the New Zealand Transport Agency’s Operator Rating System and tertiary education accreditation with ACC.
