Improvements coming for Wairarapa train commuters

Improvements coming for Wairarapa train commuters

Greater Wellington Regional Council is determined to improve Wairarapa rail service.

“We’re aware of the concerns of Wairarapa Line travellers. Punctuality and capacity are the heart of the issues they face and we’re going to intensify how we work with our partners to address them ” says Greater Wellington Regional Council Chair Cr Chris Laidlaw.

The regional council has appointed a special project manager to bring together all parties involved in the line – Greater Wellington, KiwiRail, Transdev Wellington, local councils and communities along the line – to collectively identify actions to improve the quality of the rail service.

The initial focus of activity will centre on operational changes but there will also be emphasis on medium and long-term options to improve services. “With the support of all the parties we can do better and we will, but it won’t happen overnight” says Cr Laidlaw.
