The $100,000 being spent on renaming the old
SH1 in Kapiti is disgraceful - as is the local Mayor's
approach that the costs don't matter because it's taxpayer,
not ratepayers' money.
Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers' Union, in response to Kapiti Coast Mayor K Gurunathan, said "I'm not sure how much life-saving median barriers $100,000 buys, but I am pretty sure that it's a higher priority then spin doctors and iwi consultation to name a road."
"The only thing this is good for is a make-work scheme for bureaucrats and spin doctors. If elected officials did their jobs and made a decision, or the Council simply had a competition via an online vote, this whole exercise could cost $1,000 and not the $100,000 being wasted."
