Takapuna Transactions Shine Shoreside

Takapuna Transactions Shine Shoreside

Takapuna, Auckland. 14 August 2017. Arguably one of the jewels in Auckland’s metropolitan crown, Takapuna Beach is now gaining favour with international visitors, keen to share their tourism dollars Shoreside.

According to the recently released Marketview Report, Takapuna retailers have enjoyed a growth of NZ$6m in the 12 month period to 30 June 2017. This represents an increase of 150,000 transactions and a 26.2% increase in purchase by international visitors

Takapuna Beach Business Association CEO , Terry Holt says this growth is testimony to the association’s initiative to woo cruise passengers to Takapuna during their Auckland stopovers. Terry piloted this programme with Auckland based, ID Tours who manage the inbound and shore excursion requirements for the major cruise companies and who included Takapuna in their 2016/17 season’s options. Of the international visitors to share their tourist dollars shoreside, the USA market led this growth followed by Australia and the United Kingdom. Terry notes that this reflects the source markets of the cruise ships that were targeted for Takapuna saying that “When you only have a day in Auckland, the opportunity to visit Takapuna offers a snapshot of the New Zealand life and some of our great icons such as white sand beaches, beautiful harbour, relaxed lifestyle and unique geological features, all of which can be captured in a short excursion across Auckland’s harbour bridge.”

Whilst locals are still the source market for spending in Takapuna, hospitality receives the ‘lion’s share’ of around 36% and has recently reported growth of 10.4%. The report also supports the fact that the secrets of the shore are catching on to the greater Auckland area and beyond. Terry notes this as being an integral part of the association’s strategic plan and credits the forward thinking of landlords who have invested in Takapuna as well as those business owners who have chosen Takapuna to launch innovative and boutique outlets which has added considerably to Takapuna’s reputation as a desirable place to dine, shop, work and play
