Operation ICE - Further appeal following sexual violation in Queenstown

Please attribute to Detective Sergeant Brian Cameron

Queenstown Police are continuing to appeal for help from the community as the investigation continues into a sexual violation at a residential address in the early hours of Sunday 13 August in the Fernhill area.

Police want to hear from a young woman who was helped by the victim.

The victim found this woman crying and upset in the vicinity of the Starbucks Café, situated at the top of The Mall, on Camp Street, between 12:15 and 12:45am.

The victim has comforted this young woman and the pair are believed to have caught a taxi up to the Fernhill area to where this young woman was apparently living.

As part of the ongoing investigation Police would like to speak with this woman.

Whilst we have received a number of calls over the past 24 hours from members of the public offering information we are yet to identify the male involved. The male is described as a dark skinned male of average height, with an athletic build, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and speaking with a non-Kiwi accent.

We are continuing to appeal to anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the vicinity of the Mackinnon Terrace, Fernhill Road intersection between 01.30am and 03:15am on Sunday 13 August.

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is asked to contact the Operation ICE team at Queenstown Police on 03 441 1600.

Information can also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police would like to take this opportunity to again remind the community to be aware of their home security.

Check and lock your doors and windows before going to bed and, if possible install an alarm inside and sensor lighting outside your home.

If you are in a rental property then speak to your landlord to see what can be done to upgrade your security.
