UPDATE: One person dies in SH2, Athenree Gorge crash

One person has died following the serious crash on State Highway Two, between Waihi and Athenree Gorge, this morning.

There are no further injuries.

At 8:07am, a petrol tanker and a car collided near the intersection of Mathers Road.

SH 2 remains closed and diversions are in place.

While Police work to inform next of kin, the Serious Crash Unit will investigate.
