North Dunedin residents reminded to keep vehicles secure

Police is reminding North Dunedin residents to always lock their vehicles after two cars have been stolen with keys left in the ignition.

The cars were both stolen while the owners had left them unattended for just a couple of minutes.

One car, taken from the corner of George Street on Saturday afternoon, was recovered yesterday.

The second, taken from North Road at approximately 1:15pm today, is still outstanding; it is described as a green and silver 1998 Toyota Raum station wagon, registration number DRN627.

The theft of a car is often an opportunistic crime and owners are urged to take preventative measures.

Locking your car should be a priority and valuables should not be left inside.

Using secure locks and anti-theft devices will slow down thieves.

The more time a criminal spends attempting to steal a vehicle, the higher the likelihood of discovery and apprehension.

Police encourage neighbours to look out for each other and report any suspicious activity as soon as possible.
