Overnight closures of Victoria Park flyover

25 August 2017 | AUCKLAND & NORTHLAND

Overnight closures of Victoria Park flyover for maintenance work

Road users are advised that the State Highway 1 viaduct over Auckland’s Victoria Park will be closed for maintenance work overnight for the next three months.

The NZ Transport Agency is upgrading the stormwater system to improve water drainage, which will make this section of the highway safer and more resilient.

“The viaduct will be closed to all traffic between 10pm and 5am Sunday to Thursday nights each week starting from 27 August through September and October. Motorists will be asked to follow the sign posted detour routes,” says the NZ Transport Agency’s Auckland System Manager, Tim Crow.

The detour routes will differ depending on the exact location of the work but will be signposted via Hobson Street or State Highway 16 to the Port.

The closures ae scheduled to take place at night when traffic flows are at their lightest.

During the day work will also take place underneath the viaduct and the footpath and cycleway will also be closed to ensure safety. Alternative cycling and walking routes will also be signposted.

“We appreciate that closures can be frustrating for motorists and that the work will cause some disruption for residents and business in the area. We will be working hard to minimise noise and will be monitoring noise levels in the area throughout the work.”
