Friends of Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom donate funds raised

Friends of Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom have donated funds to the Community and Culture Centre, after raising money through a cook book and quiz nights.

The cheque for $7,127.40 was handed over to Foxton Community Board Chair David Roache, by FoTANS Chair Hannah Street on Wednesday.

“There are many people in the Foxton Community who are excited about the Community Centre at Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom and wanted a way to contribute to its development. A recipe book was a fantastic and easy way for people to create something that could be used as a fundraiser” Ms Street said.

Recipes and cooking ‘handy hints’ were donated by members of community groups, local businesses and organisations and quiz nights were held in Foxton.

The flagship facility incorporates the Piriharakeke Generation Inspiration Centre, Oranjehof, theNational Dutch Connection Museum, and Foxton’s library and community service centre.

The money raised will go towards a portable sound system and chairs. A portion of the funds was also donated by Boffa Miskell, for the purpose of planting trees.

“While the amount may seem small compared to some of the funds received recently, it shows how invested and enthused Foxton and the wider community are about this facility. We are all looking forward to it opening”, Mr Roache said.

Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom will open to the public 18th November 2017.

FoTANS Cookbooks are still available to purchase from the Lotto shop in Foxton, DeMolen and will be available at the Spring Fling.
