Two men arrested in Napier for importing methamphetamine

Two men were arrested in Napier today in relation to the importation of methamphetamine, following an investigation by the Eastern District Organised Crime Unit and NZ Customs.

The two men, aged 45 and 31, have been charged with the importation of 236 grams of methamphetamine, with a street value of around $200,000.

They are also facing charges related to possession of Class A and Class B drugs.

They are scheduled to appear in Hastings District Court tomorrow.

Today's arrests are unrelated to last week's operation in Eastern District.

"The investigation into methamphetamine-related offending will continue to be the primary focus of the Eastern District Organised Crime Unit," says Detective Senior Sergeant Brent Greville.

"The people that choose to distribute this insidious drug can expect to be put before the courts and be held accountable for the misery they inflict on our society."

"Police can't do this alone however and anyone with information about drug dealers in the Hawke's Bay area is asked to contact us on 06 831 0700.

Information can also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers - 0800 555 111."
