PNCC congratulates Heather Knox’s international award win

Palmerston North City Council congratulates Palmerston North woman, Heather Knox on winning an IPA (International Play Association) Right to Play Programme Award. The award for ‘Recognition of Excellence and Impact’ was announced at the World IPA Conference in Calgary on Sunday (17 September). Her ‘Play Palmy’ initiatives sat alongside five other winning international programmes from Italy, Canada (2), Turkey and Hong Kong.

Mrs Knox was nominated for her Manawatu Microadventurers, Palmy Dirty 30, Palmy Rocks and Passport to Play initiatives.

“We are delighted to hear Heather’s tireless work on some amazing community projects has been recognised internationally,” says PNCC Mayor Grant Smith.

“Heather and her team of supporters created projects that encouraged children to be entertained while exploring the natural environment. The large numbers of children and families who have participated and enjoyed these projects is a huge testament to her work. We have some great natural play areas in Palmerston North, and these projects have all been about getting our children outside to enjoy them.”

Council staff have worked closely with Mrs Knox to assist with delivering some of her projects. Her enthusiasm and creativity has been warmly welcomed by them.

“It’s so easy working with Heather,” says PNCC Senior Planner, Jeff Baker. “She is super organised, full of ideas and above all is really passionate about making our City a fun place to raise children in.”
