Waipa District Council clings to inefficient water services

RELEASE
Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams is denouncing Waipa District Council’s refusal to pool water management services with neighbouring Hamilton City.
"The role of councilors is to meet ratepayers’ local needs by obtaining effective and efficient services. Waipa’s council could have freed up resources to focus on this core business. Instead, they’ve protecting the resource-intensive fragmented system. It stinks of empire building and jealousy," says Mr Williams.
"While amalgamation of councils is not something we generally support, joining up with other councils to provide water services is a no brainer to improve efficiency, get economies of scale, and save ratepayer money."
"The Taxpayers’ Union backs Infrastructure New Zealand’s comments that there are 'significant benefits' from joint water management, as demonstrated by the Wellington Water example."
