Full water restrictions for Tairua

An electrical fault at our Tairua water treatment plant means we cannot currently produce potable water there. There is a full water restriction in Tairua, including a hose, irrigation and sprinkler ban until the electrical fault can be fixed.

Our Tairua reservoirs are currently three-quarters full but this won't last long so we need residents and visitors to do their absolute best to conserve water.

Our contractors are working to fix the problem, but until the water treatment plant is up and running again please use water sparingly.

Because of higher than normal water use for the time of year, Tairua, Pauanui and Whangamata already had a ban on irrigation and sprinkler ban. This continues in Pauanui and Whangamata.

Here are some tips for smart water use

Wait until you can do full loads before you wash dishes or use the washing machine.
Don’t run the water when brushing your teeth.
For cool drinking water, fill a jug and keep it in the fridge. Running water to cool it down can waste 10 litres a minute.
For lawns, apply the ‘step test’ – if grass springs back after you walk on it, it doesn’t need watering.
If your toilet has a dual flush button, use the half flush.
