"Body recovered in Matai River, Nelson"

A body has been discovered in the water of the Matai River near Nile Street, Nelson this afternoon.

Police were called to the scene by a member of the public at approximately 1:15pm.

Indications are that the person had been swimming in the waterhole.

Efforts are underway to recover the body.
