Airport welcome for international cricket teams

Airport welcome for international cricket teams

Dunedin (Tuesday, 9 January 2018) – Dunedin residents are being urged to roll out a big southern welcome for the New Zealand and Pakistan cricket teams when they arrive in the city tomorrow ahead of their one day international cricket fixture this weekend.

The BLACKCAPS arrive at 1.40pm and the Pakistan team at 5.05pm on Wednesday, 10 January at the Dunedin International Airport.

The Dunedin City Council is encouraging fans to get dressed up and head out to the airport to welcome both teams.

The King’s and Queen’s High Schools’ Kapa Haka group, He Waka Kōtuia, will welcome the teams and a lone piper will pipe the players through the terminal.

Mayor of Dunedin Dave Cull says, “Summer is synonymous with cricket, and the grass embankments at the University of Otago Oval provide ideal vantage points to watch all the action from.

“I’m sure both the BLACKCAPS and Pakistan will be eager to put on a good spectacle to entertain the Dunedin and visiting public,” he says.

The one day international will be held at the University of Otago Oval on Saturday, 13 January.
