Waitangi Day commemorations in Council Chambers this year

Waitangi Day 2018 commemorations will take place on Tuesday 6 February from 1pm-3pm at the Kāpiti Coast District Council chambers in Paraparaumu.

The theme this year is Te Tiriti: ‘Me huri whakamuri, ka titiro whakamua’, a multimedia exhibition showcasing the relationship and significance of the Treaty of Waitangi to the Kāpiti Coast.

Te Whakaminenga o Kāpiti agreed to Mayor K Gurunathan’s request for this year’s commemoration to be hosted by Council.

“We are honoured to host Waitangi Day at Council this year, and be able to commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in such a meaningful and reflective way,” Mayor Gurunathan says.

“I am proud that this year’s event strives to build community understanding of the significance of the Treaty of Waitangi and tell the history of Te Tirito o Waitangi in our rohe. The partnership that we share with tāngata whenua lays the foundation to furthering education and understanding for future generations of Kāpiti residents.”
The exhibition will show throughout the District at various service centres until June.
