A charity auction and dinner organised by Turangi’s Century 21 Premier have been deemed “a huge success,” raising over $15,000 for two local causes.

Local Century 21 franchise owner, Wai Johnson, says the net proceeds will help fund training items and uniforms for the St John Tuwharetoa Youth Division, with anyremaining funds to be donated to the proposed new St John Ambulance station building for Turangi.

Held on Saturday 13 January, the auction in the local mall attracted a significant crowd of eager bargain hunters keen to have fun and all for a good cause. Auctioneer and local Century 21 salesperson Roger Webb led proceedings.

A large variety of items went under the hammer, including a ride on the Turangi Coastguard boat, accommodation and/or restaurant vouchers, fishing items, rafting, and a float plane ride.

Then that night a ‘Wild Foods’ charity dinner took place at the Turangi Senior Citizens Club which included a Bee Gees tribute band.

“It was phenomenal food, fantastic music and so many wonderful people made for a truly awesome evening,” says Mr Webb.

Wai Johnson says the team at Century 21 Premier wishes to send out a massive ‘thank you’ to both Turangi and Taupo businesses and organisations that donated and/or attended the charity auction and dinner.

“We also had a heap of volunteers who worked tirelessly. Without everyone’s combined support none of this would’ve been possible. We are truly grateful for the enormous generosity and community spirit which really delivered.”

Ms Johnson says given all the positive and enthusiastic feedback, Century 21 Premier is already planning next year’s charity event, with details to be released later this year including which local charity will be the next recipient.

“I take my hat off to Century 21’s Turangi team and everyone who supported the charity auction and dinner. This is a fantastic result for the local community,” says Century 21 New Zealand National Manager, Geoff Barnett.
