Partial closure of Onehunga car park

Partial closure of Onehunga car park

Auckland Transport is closing part of its free car park at 9 Waller Street in Onehunga after engineers identified possible issues with a retaining wall.

AT Chief Engineer Andrew Scoggins says a safety barrier will be put in tonight. “This is a precaution after engineers raised some concerns about the state of the wall.”

He says 13 of the 60 parking bays in the car park will be closed, these are the spots next to the wall. The car park fronts on to a large empty section and there is no concern for neighbouring properties.

“We regret any inconvenience but safety is our first priority. If we have more heavy rain the wall could deteriorate even further.”

Mr Scoggins says Auckland Transport is currently assessing repair options for the wall.

A survey will also be undertaken to confirm whether the wall is part of the car park or the adjacent property.
