Easter trading review underway

Dunedin (Monday, 30 April 2018) – Easter Sunday trading was allowed in Dunedin for the first time this year and as part of a review, the Dunedin City Council is seeking feedback from employees, retailers and the public.

Dunedin City Council General Manager Community Services Simon Pickford says a survey is an important part of the review, that will help with decision-making around future Easter Sunday trading in the city.

“We’ve heard informal feedback from businesses which opened, but want to hear about people’s experiences and views so we have an online survey to get this feedback. We don’t just want to hear from businesses, it’s an opportunity for employees, the public, church groups and previous submitters to have their say as well.”

When Dunedin became one of about 25 councils to adopt an Easter Sunday Trading Policy, the Council promised a review would be completed by the end of this year.

Following consultation, a report will go to Council, analysing the impact of Easter Sunday trading and the feedback received.

A special consultative procedure will then be held, followed by hearings and deliberations.

The information and feedback gathered will be used by the Hearings Committee in making a recommendation.

The survey is on the DCC website and closes on 18 May.
