Man charged with murder following death of baby in Upper Hutt

Police have charged a 31-year-old man with murder following the death of a 5-month-old boy in Wellington Hospital yesterday.

The man, who is known to the baby, is due to appear in Wellington District Court today.

Emergency services were initially called to an address in Upper Hutt on Monday 11 June where the boy was found with serious head injuries.

Despite surgery the boy died in hospital yesterday.

A scene examination at the address where the baby was found is ongoing.

As the matter is before the courts Police is unable to comment further.
