Bayleys gets on board the Blenheim bus

Bayleys gets on board the Blenheim bus

Marlborough District Council has agreed an extended sponsorship deal with Bayleys Marlborough Ltd., renewing its support for the Blenheim bus service.

The agreement is for three years, with two rights of renewal, each for an additional three-year period.

The bus loops around Blenheim six days a week, stopping outside the town’s main supermarkets, library, Wairau Hospital, medical practices and retirement villages.

Bayleys Marlborough director Glenn Dick said while Bayleys already contributes generously to many local Marlborough events and charities, the bus service is an important lifeline for many.

“As a locally owned and operated company, Bayleys Marlborough found the opportunity to extend its support for the Blenheim bus service matched perfectly with our role in the Marlborough community.”

Marlborough District Councillor Jenny Andrews, who leads the Council’s Older Persons Forum, welcomed the new sponsorship.

“This is good news and we welcome Bayleys continued support. The bus provides an important link for residents to get around town - around 25,000 trips are taken each year.”

The sponsorship’s value for the first year was discounted by the cost of branding a new bus, which Ritchies is introducing on to the service shortly.

The arrangement also provides for a space on the rear of the bus for events advertising from Council’s Follow-Me website. This will be managed by Council’s Regional Events Advisor and provide an opportunity for additional revenue to support the service.

Marlborough District Council is planning to extend the bus service, after a recent public survey received over 600 submissions requesting new routes and services.

A report will go to the next Assets and Services Committee on 19 July outlining possible route and service options.
