Search for missing Motueka man Jason Campbell continues

Monday, 13 August 2018 - 3:09pm

Statement attributable to Sergeant Malcolm York

The search for missing Motueka man Jason Campbell is ongoing.

The last confirmed sighting of Jason was on Takaka Hill on Monday 6 August.

Jason is 35-years-old and is described as 174cm tall, of thin build with dark hair. His Silver Nissan van, set up for camping, was located on Takaka Hill Tuesday 7 August.

After receiving the missing person report an intensive four days of searching was completed and leaflets and posters have been distributed to properties in the area. Despite all search efforts no signs of Jason have been found.

There was no visible searching by Police or Search and Rescue teams over the weekend as we wanted to give Jason the time to come out of his own accord.

A review of the search efforts has been undertaken today to identify areas for further investigation. Based on this specialist teams, including cave search and rescue personnel and search and rescue dogs will continue the search tomorrow.

When the weather allows we will also be deploying a drone to give us access to difficult search areas.

Takaka Hill is an area well known to Jason and we are working closely with his family to support them and keep them fully informed of the search activities.
