A good weekend for most is in store, with MetService forecasting a positive outlook for the next few days.

“Following an unsettled wet and windy week, a brief high-pressure ridge is set to provide some fine weather relief for much of New Zealand,” says MetService meteorologist Tui McInnes.

A southerly moving up the country Friday and early into Saturday is expected to bring some cloudy and wet conditions to eastern areas of the South Island as well as the lower North Island.

“Cooler temperatures will mean snow about higher ground for the central South Island, with Road Snowfall Warnings in place for Lindis Pass, Crown Range Road and Milford Road” says McInnes. Further on, we all benefit from an improving trend in the weather.

“Fine weather prevails across most of the country as we move into Sunday, while calm winds and clear skies will make for a nippy start to a pleasant day,” he explains. This comes after a mild start to August, which has sent out calls of ‘it’s spring already’.

However, next week will serve as a reminder that we are still in winter. “A frontal system moving in from the Tasman is looking likely to produce widespread rain and stronger winds. Colder temperatures will spread across lower parts of the country, reminding us we’re not quite in spring yet,” he concludes.
