Feminist Fables and Women’s War Stories to boost Nelson Women’s Centre
Nine Nelson women with interesting lives across a range of sectors will tell their ‘Feminist Fables and Women’s War Stories’ at a fundraising evening in support of the Nelson Women’s Centre.
Hilary Mitchell who is a member of the governing collective said it was approriate to celebrate Suffrage 125 as the centre’s annual fundraiser.
“The Nelson Women’s Centre is based on the same feminist principles that the suffragettes fought for 125 years ago,” she said. “We’ve asked women from a wide range of work experience and backgrounds to tell some tales about their lives in what is often still a man’s world.”
‘The Nelson Women’s Centre celebrated its 25th birthday last year. It is open to any women as a drop in centre and opshop, and also offers counselling, social-work and workshops.
Mitchell says the centre does a great deal of valuable work in the Nelson community.
“We help a lot of women with serious issues such as housing, family difficulties, grief and poverty,” she said. “This is well worth supporting by coming out to what promises to be a fun and entertaining evening.”
