Palmy Fringe Comedy

The inaugural Palmy Fringe Festival is happening from 6 - 13 October and The Comedy Hub will be running an EXCLUSIVE stand-up comedy venue at The Royal Hotel, featuring two performances spaces, The Great Hall and The Chamber!

Palmy Fringe Comedy has 35 different shows happening over the week and will feature a plethora of up and coming stars, a few hidden gems and some touring stalwarts, as well as some fantastic local comedians. Performers are coming from Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Wanaka for the festival.

When Palmy Fringe Festival was announced in November last year at a meeting with local artists, The Comedy Hub were vocal in expressing their support for the festival and realised quickly the opportunities that it offered them.

"We saw the potential that Palmy Fringe had for us. This is a chance for us to do our very own comedy festival and we're extremely excited by who we have coming here. It's going to be great for our city," says The Comedy Hub's secretary Nathan Cross.

Some of the more recognisable names appearing in the festival are Billy T nominee Patch Lambert, world renowned Trump impersonator Alexander Sparrow, Sam Smith and Luke Callaghan (who both write and appear on 7 Days and Jono and Ben), 2015 National Raw Comedy Quest winner Savanna Calton and Ashton Brown from TVNZ's The Inside Word.

The Comedy Hub was established last year to develop the Manawatu's comedic talent and Palmy Fringe Comedy is a great opportunity to do that.

"This will be the first time many of the local comedians have been involved in a festival of this scale and it will be a great experience for them to rub shoulders with the incoming performers. Some of them have years of experience touring, performing, writing for TV, so it can only be a positive for our scene," says Nathan.

As well as comedy, The Royal will also host three variety shows featuring other performers from Palmy Fringe Festival including acrobats, musicians, magicians and mimes.

Ticket prices range from Koha to $25. For more information on Palmy Fringe Comedy, visit The Comedy Hub website and for ticket bookings, go to Eventfinder. Also, be listening out to The Rock 95.4 FM for ticket giveaways.
