After 19 weeks of intensive training, our brand new 20 Auckland-based recruits will graduate at a ceremony in Albany on Thursday.

Section 5 of Wing 314 were the first officers to be trained in Tamaki Makaurau since 1974, as opposed to being trained at the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua, Wellington.

This pilot came about following direct feedback from potential recruits, whom for many said that moving to Wellington for 16 weeks was a real barrier to joining New Zealand Police, particularly those with young children.

Inspector Iain Saunders, Head of Training at RNZPC, says the pilot has been incredibly successful.

“I am really proud to be able to say that we have 20 talented probationary officers who will be joining the three Auckland Districts.
This wing is a diverse bunch with backgrounds from across the globe including Fiji, South Korea, India, Italy, China and South Africa.”

Jaedoo Kim will be joined at the graduation ceremony by his parents who are coming from overseas, where they are both Police Officers in South Korea.
They will be in their traditional Police uniforms.

Another of our officers, Andrea Andrenacci was in the Italian and New Zealand Navies before deciding he wanted to wear the blue uniform.

The ceremony will be held at Level 3 of the main stadium at North Harbour Rugby Stadium in Albany on Thursday 6 September, commencing at 9.30am.

Deputy Commissioner John Tims on behalf of Police Commissioner Mike Bush, Minister of Police Stuart Nash and Wing Patron Sir Noel Robinson will all be in attendance.
