WelTec Hutt City Youth Awards back for 2018
5 September 2018
“The WelTec Hutt City Youth Awards are back for 2018!” says Chris Bishop MP, Chair of the Organising Committee.
“Young people are doing some amazing things in the Hutt and these awards, which were established in 2015, are all about shining a light on the remarkable achievements of our talented young people.”
The Awards once again offer eight categories including leadership, contribution to sport, the arts, entrepreneurship, embracing diversity, science and technology, service to the community, and overcoming adversity.
“Every year the awards ceremony is a very special night, as the Hutt community comes together to pay tribute to our outstanding young people. The winner of each category will also be awarded a $500 cash prize at the ceremony, to be held on Thursday October 25 at WelTec”, says Mr Bishop.
The major sponsor of the awards is WelTec, supported by other local organisations GNS Science, Label & Litho, The Hutt News, Goodtime Music Academy, The Hodge Group, Westpac, Hutt City Council’s Youth Council, and OrangeBox.
Young people aged 12-21 are eligible for nomination provided they have a strong connection to Lower Hutt, such as living or going to school in the area.
“The Judging Panel is looking forward to considering all the nominations. In the last three years the quality of nominations was absolutely brilliant, with some incredible stories. As Mayor of Lower Hutt it is my real pleasure to support the awards”, says Mayor Ray Wallace.
Nominations can be made online at www.huttcityyouthawards.co.nz or in writing. Nominations close on Friday September 25.
The judging panel consists of Mayor of Lower Hutt Ray Wallace (Chair), Kerri Graham QSM (Naenae Youth Charitable Trust), Kevin Goldsbury (Ignite Sport), Matt Reid (TAKA Trust), Prabha Ravi (Natraj School of Dance), Sophia Nem (Hutt City Youth Council), and Chris Gosling (CE of WelTec).
